This time of year, I’m all about the blackberry. When I get my hands on some, I want to put them in pies, smoothies, and plain and simple, just eat them by the handfuls.
When I was a kid, my dad and step-mom had rows and rows of blackberry bushes on their farm along the fence row. We used to pick them right off the bushes and enjoy. When I drink a smoothie like this, I’m reminded of those summer days on the farm.
1 medium-sized banana (and yes, peel it first)
½ of a fresh avocado
½ cup chopped pineapple
1 large handful of fresh blackberries (about ½–¾ cup because some hands are bigger than others you know)
¾ cup of cashew milk (I like the so delicious brand)
handful of ice
Place all ingredients, except ice, in food processor. Blend until smooth (you can add more cashew milk if you like a thinner consistency). Add ice. Blend until smooth again.*
Pour into a glass. Serve with a pineapple garnish.
* This smoothie is true-to-fruit taste, which means it isn’t that sweet. If you like it a little sweeter, add a tablespoon of honey/agave nectar or a tablespoon of your favorite nut butter (I recommend Artisana walnut butter because it’s out-of-this-world good).
